While the qualifying phase started with victories for Francisco Cerúndolo, Báez, Velotti and Kicker, the main draw determined a single match between Argentines: Delbonis vs. Juan Manuel Cerúndolo, finalist of the Córdoba Open.
The Argentina Open began its 21st edition today at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club, with the start of qualifyings, in which four Argentines advanced to the second round. Organized by Tennium, the tournament will run until Sunday, March 7th, and will have a daily live broadcast on TyC Sports, the official channel of the Argentina Open.
The argentinian victories of the day were for Sebastián Báez, Agustín Velotti, Francisco Cerúndolo and Nicolás Kicker. The top seed, Jaume Munar, 104th in the world, also advanced. While Hugo Dellien, second-seeded, could not appear due to a left wrist injury.
In addition to the preliminary phase, the main draw was also carried out, with the participation of Martín Jaite, tournament director, ATP supervisor Jorge Mandl, and ATP Tour Manager, Pablo Juárez.
The local tennis players will have these rivals in the first round: the guests Facundo Díaz Acosta and Thiago Tirante will face a qualifier and Dominik Koepfer, respectively. Federico Coria will be up against a competitor who passes the previous phase.
Facundo Bagnis will face Frances Tiafoe (8th), Juan Ignacio Londero will face Pablo Andújar (6th), Federico Delbonis and Juan Manuel Cerúndolo will star in the only 100% local duel of the first round.
For their part, the first seeded will have the first free pass and will start at the 16 round. They are Diego Schwartzman (ARG, 9th ATP, and first seed), Cristian Garin (CHI, 2nd), Benoit Paire (FRA, 3rd), and Miomir Kecmanovic (SRB, 4th).
