The BBVA Open Internacional Valencia Tournament is back for another year, thanks to Anabel Medina and Tennium, and will bring the best women’s tennis to the capital of the Turia from 8 to 16 June 2024 at the Sporting Club de Tenis. The event will distribute prizes of up to $125,000 for its participants and consolidates itself as the only WTA tournament in the history of the Valencian Community and one of the few to be held in Spain.
The creator and director of the tournament, together with one of the biggest sports companies in Europe, organiser of events such as the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell – Conde de Godó Trophy, the Davis Cup Finals, the Hamburg Open (ATP500) in Germany, the Argentina Open (ATP250) in Buenos Aires and the European Open (ATP250) in Belgium, are already working on the final draw.
This new synergy, together with the support of BBVA as main sponsor, certifies the intention already presented in the 2022 and 2023 editions to consolidate as a WTA tournament and to bring together in the capital of the Turia some of the best players on the international circuit.
From today, tickets can be purchased through the official website https://openinternacionalvalencia.com/. Tickets will be free in the preliminary phase on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9, with popular prices ranging from 5 to 30 euros. The weekly season ticket will be 50 euros, with various options for VIP and Box seats.
But its evolution will not rule out any of the complementary activities to the tournament that have given it its own identity: the U-14 tournament will continue to be played to offer visibility and opportunities to emerging players, as well as solidarity initiatives for disabled athletes.
In addition to this, there will once again be a special concern for the environment, after becoming the first tournament in the world to completely offset its carbon footprint.
The BBVA Open Internacional de Valencia will be supported by the Generalitat Valenciana, the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation, the Valencia Provincial Council, the Valencia City Council, the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation, BBVA as title sponsor, Volvo, Camper Days, Germaine de Capuccini, Arroz Dacsa, Abenet Soluciones, Melt Group, Glasol, Ysabel Mora, and other brands that continue to join the project.
The presentation ceremony of the 2024 edition took place on the terrace of the Sporting Tennis Club, which for the fourth consecutive year will host the event, which will be enjoyed by both its members and the general public.
Anabel Medina announced the presence of some Top 100 players already confirmed as Elina Avanesyan, Mayar Sherif, Sara Errani, the bronze medallist in Tokyo Laura Pigossi, as well as the Spanish Jessica Bouzas or Nuria Párrizas.
He also confirmed that ‘the activities focused on both training categories and disabled groups will be maintained, with the U14 championship, which allows Valencian girls to experience a high-level event, as well as wheelchair tennis and exhibitions for the blind’.
BBVA’s Eastern Territorial Director, José Manuel Mieres, said it was ‘an honour to be here today with Anabel at the presentation of the 2024 edition of the BBVA Open Internacional de Valencia, a tournament that bears our name’ and added that ‘this event not only celebrates talent and passion for tennis, but is also a reflection of the fundamental values that guide us at BBVA: diversity, equal opportunities and sustainability’.
Sporting Club de Tenis president Miguel Selvi expressed the fact that the event ‘already feels like home, as well as becoming the great event that our members look forward to year after year’.
Along the same lines, Paco Vicens, president of the FTCV, pointed out ‘the importance for us of promoting young talent and even the possibility of being able to manage this U14 trophy in more places in the region’.
The public support was shown in the presence of the Councillor for Sports, Equality and Education of the Valencia City Council, Rocío Gil, who insisted that ‘when things are done well, it is evident that the continuity of public support is a fact, as has been the case since the beginning of the project’.
And the Deputy for Tourism and Sports of the Provincial Council of Valencia, Pedro Cuesta, who spoke about the values ‘that are in line with what we want to promote in which the practice of grassroots sport and the participation of women are prioritised. Likewise, as deputy for Tourism, this is an opportunity provided by a tournament like this to show the world all our attractions and that they can see how well we do things here’.
Concluding the speeches from the institutional sector was the Director General of Sport of the Generalitat Valenciana, Luis Cervera, who said that the BBVA Valencia International Open ‘is the perfect event that this region aspires to, with support for young, local, female talent and a real concern for inclusion and sustainability’.
