Facundo Díaz Acosta won the Uruguay Open after Thiago Monteiro retired when he was leading 6-3, 4-3. In this way, the Argentinean rounded off a great season, winning his fourth Challenger title in Montevideo.
The title won at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis facilities will allow the 22 year old Argentinean to climb up to the 93rd position in the world ranking, which almost assures his entry to the main draw of next year’s Australian Open.
The title won in Montevideo also allows the Argentinean to finish his best season of his career having won four Challenger titles: Savannah, Oeiras, Milan and Montevideo. He was also a finalist in Heinbronn and a semi-finalist in Santiago de Chile.
“I’m happy for the end of the season. Not so much for the ranking, but for the way I’m playing”, said after the match the player coached by Mariano Monacchesi, who also recently won the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile.
