Holger Rune (No. 7 ATP ranking) successfully defended his Munich Open title and fought back to beat Botic van de Zandschulp 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (3).
A week after losing the final in Monte Carlo to Andrey Rublev (6th), 19-year-old Holger Rune retained the title in Munich, where last year he won his first tournament as a professional against the same opponent, who then had to withdraw due to injury.
In trouble in the deciding set, Rune got up to confirm his great form on clay, five weeks away from Roland Garros. Despite the pain in his right shoulder and right ankle, Rune was able to prevail in the tie-break of the deciding set to sign the fourth title of his short career after the three he won in 2022: Munich, Stockholm and the Masters 1000 Paris-Bercy. In addition, he played three other finals in defeat (Basel, Sofia and Monte-Carlo).
