SCHWARTZMAN BECOMES THE FIRST ARGENTINIAN CHAMPION OF THE ARGENTINA OPEN IN THIRTEEN YEARS

He is the first local winner in Buenos Aires since David Nalbandian in 2008. The Brkic / Cacic duo won the doubles title.

The Argentina Open, South America’s most prestigious and prestigious event, which took place at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club and was broadcast live by TyC Sports, today had its first local champion in thirteen years: Diego Schwartzman, who beat Francisco Cerúndolo 6-1, 6-2 in the final.

“To the people who helped me in my career, I owe these moments. It was an incredible week for me and it’s the first time I win at home. Two years ago I played in the final, I lost and I was sad at that time, so today I had my revenge”, said the champion during the awards ceremony.

Schwartzman is the first Argentine champion in Buenos Aires since David Nalbandian, when he defeated Jose Acasuso in 2008. That had been the last final between local players at the Argentina Open until today. In addition, El Peque joined the list of five Argentine singles winners in the tournament, which also includes Guillermo Coria (2004), Gastón Gaudio (2005) and Juan Mónaco (2007).

In doubles, Tomislav Brkic and Nikola Cacic, from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, won the title after defeating Uruguay’s Ariel Behar and Ecuador’s Gonzalo Escobar in the final, 6-3, 7-5.
