The President of Banco Sabadell, Josep Oliu, stated that “we are very pleased to continue being the main partner of this tournament, which is now in its 72nd edition. We began sponsoring the Open Banc Sabadell in 2008 because we truly identify with the values it represents—values such as perseverance, companionship, and persistence. Furthermore, we are especially proud that an initiative like the ‘Aces Solidarios’ (Solidarity Aces) continues for another year with the same goal: to help and highlight the great work carried out by social organizations. Being a spokesperson for these initiatives during the tournament is especially moving for us.”
A Special Guest
Xavier Pujol, CEO of the tournament, also announced the presence of tennis legend Björn Borg, who will receive a moving tribute to mark the 50th anniversary of his victory in the 1975 edition of the tournament. The Swede is considered one of the greatest tennis players in history, lifting the Roland Garros trophy on 6 occasions and the Wimbledon titles five times. Borg will also receive the inaugural “Off-Court” award, an initiative launched this year by the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell to recognize important figures and institutions related to the tournament. Banco Sabadell also received an award during the presentation.
A Leader in Sustainability
For another year, the tournament will continue its commitment to environmental protection with its ambitious sustainability plan, which is a global reference for sporting events. Last year, the tournament launched a new water filtration system to sustainably water the courts and renewed its AENOR Validated Carbon Footprint certification, in accordance with the international ISO 14064 standard. This recognition joins the ISO 20121 certification received in 2018 and the title awarded to Barcelona Biosphere in 2019 for its commitment to sustainable tourism in the city.
Meeting point and international projection
This year, the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell will once again be the main meeting point for business and the stage for closing deals that promote the city of Barcelona internationally. For nine days, the tournament’s Hospitality section will bring together the country’s leading business, political, social, cultural, and sport groups. This projection will also be achieved from a social perspective, with numerous charitable initiatives to improve the lives of those most in need through the Barcelona Tennis Foundation, which will once again be the official Charity Partner.
