The tennis tournament will celebrate its Silver Jubilee next February
The 2025 edition will feature players such as Germany’s Alexander Zverev, Denmark’s Holger Rune, and Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti. Argentine Diego Schwartzman will bid farewell to his professional career.
The year 2001 is not fondly remembered in Argentina, as it ended in a devastating social crisis that led to the resignation of the nation’s President. A few months before that episode, the Buenos Aires Tennis Open was born, and in a few weeks, it will hold its 25th edition.
The ATP 250 tournament, renamed the Argentina Open, has overcome various adversities to continue uninterrupted. For this reason, the Silver Jubilee to be held between February 8 and 16 will be received with novelties, but above all, with emotion.
The main draw of the tournament has already confirmed players of the caliber of Alexander Zverev, Holger Rune, Lorenzo Musetti, Francisco Cerúndolo, Sebastián Báez, and Tomás Etcheverry. The special guest will be Diego Schwartzman, who has chosen this moment to put an end to his professional career.
“It’s a huge joy to reach 25 years. We are very satisfied with the tournament we are going to hold, and that makes us very proud,” explained Martín Jaite, the tournament director. He added: “We are very happy that ‘Peque’ (Schwartzman) has chosen this tournament to say goodbye.”
Meanwhile, Báez, Argentina’s number one, noted: “I grew up watching this championship on television, I was a spectator in 2026 and 2017, and for a few years now, I’ve been playing it. It’s special to compete in my country, a dream come true. Many legends have passed through here, and that makes it different.”
Martín Hughes, co-founder and CEO of Tennium Latin America, stated: “The promise was to try to grow the tournament and modernize it. We went through difficult times and overcame them, and I think it’s one of the most beautiful 250s in the world.” He clarified that the company owns 16 tournaments worldwide, but the Argentina Open is the one he enjoys the most.
Ignacio Abuchdid, general manager of Grupo IEB, the company that gives its name to the championship, emphasized: “Since 2010, we’ve been supporting this tournament; for us, the development of sports and the promotion of a healthy life are key. It’s an event we love, and fortunately, since 2024, we can have our brand in the name.”
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary, the Argentina Open also presented a series of special actions:
- Club of Champions: The tournament has six Argentine champions in its first 24 editions: Guillermo Coria, Gastón Gaudio, Juan Mónaco, David Nalbandian, Diego Schwartzman, and Facundo Díaz Acosta. To honor them, an amateur Argentina Open was held in their respective clubs, and each winner will play a final tournament at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club during the ATP.
- Silver Anniversary: A special logo was created for the 25th edition, which will be present in all tournament communications.
- Historical Exhibition: An exhibition will be held at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club with the most important moments of the tournament’s history.
- Special Guests: Former champions and historical players of the tournament will be invited to participate in different activities during the week.
The Argentina Open thus prepares to celebrate its Silver Jubilee with a luxury lineup and various activities that will honor its rich history.
