Last week, Tennium organised a press conference in Malaga with tennis Legend and Billie Jean King Cup Finals Director, Conchita Martinez. The event took place at the IGY Marina in Malaga, just a few weeks before the Billie Jean King Cup Finals are held in the capital of the Costa del Sol, from 13-20 November 2024.

«I’m expecting a great tournament. We will have the 12 best countries in the world in Malaga. I’m looking forward to welcoming them. I’m sure it’s going to be a week of great tennis. We have Pegula (Jessica), Paolini (Jasmine) and Collins (Danielle), three of the best players in the world and some Grand Slam champions like Osaka (Naomi), Raducanu (Emma) or Andreescu (Bianca),» said the Wimbledon champion and triple Olympic medallist.

Five-time Billie Jean King Cup champion representing Spain, Martinez analysed the team captained by Anabel Medina: «It could benefit Spain to host in Malaga, playing at home and there is the incentive of the public that is very important. Spain has a good team with Paula Badosa, who is in the top 20, and the two bronze medallists from Paris 2024, Cristina Bucsa and Sara Sorribes».

EQUALITY IN THE AWARDS

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) and Billie Jean King Cup Ltd announced the prize money for the tournament’s Finals this week, news that did not go unnoticed in the sporting world.

«Tennis is fortunate to be the leading sport in terms of prize money. It’s on television a lot, there are a lot of matches. I think having equal prize money is very important, we have been fighting for years for equal prize money for men and women. That the Billie Jean King Cup is equal to the Davis Cup with this prize is an impressive step», said the Aragonese who played 91 matches in the tournament from 1988 to 2004.

The great tennis party

The Women’s Tennis World Cup Final will share the Palacio de Deportes Martín Carpena with the Davis Cup Final 8, which will be played from 19 to 24 November. «This year the Billie Jean King Cup and the Davis Cup will share a couple of days of tennis. I think it’s a great opportunity for the fans as it will be a great party to see the best players in the world.».[La Opinión de Málaga]
