“It’s nice to see that tennis is alive.” said DTB President Dietloff von Arnim regarding the success of the Hamburg Open in its first year organized by Tennium.
Tournament Director Enric Molina drew a positive conclusion for Tennium on its first year as organizer of the Hamburg Open. Molina and Kristoff Puelinckx, Tennium’s CEO, as well as President Dietloff von Arnim of the German Tennis Federation (DTB) welcomed the press at the Rothenbaum Club – the newly created “hospitality area”.
„We are super happy with the overall attendance. In the end of Sunday’s final 75.000 spectators will have visited the Hamburg Open. That is an incredible number particulary in the first year“, Molina said. The visitors had a great fan experience at the ATP-500-tournament. „They leave the ground with a big smile and they have a good time on court but also on the ground. The Feedback from ATP, stakeholders and german federation has been super positive .“
His team has learned a lot from the feedback it has already received. “The great attendance shows that the larger space we created in the fan zone was very well received and appreciated by the fans.” The large crowds also mean that his team has to improve when it comes to long queues at the entrances. “There are a lot of things we can improve. We’ll continue to get feedback from everyone involved.”
In addition to the larger area in the fan zone, the tournament has provided more activities and a significantly larger range of food and drink options. “The new hospitality area that we installed also created the „wow effect“ that we wanted.
DTB President Dietloff von Arnim was full of praise for Molina and his team: “My congratulations and thanks go to Enric, Kristoff and his team.” The concept, he said, was clearly recognizable. „Tennium was not only on site in Hamburg with the people responsible, but also with an entire team and the relevant expertise. We have taken a step forward. On the one hand with the number of spectators and the capacity in our renovated stadium. It’s nice to see that tennis is alive.”
The second point he mentioned was the functioning outdoor area, for which Tennium had invested a lot. “The public area has been well received.” Von Arnim also praised the integration of the “European Summer Cup” on the tournament grounds. DTB talents had been able to train with stars such as finalist Arthur Fils and had benefited considerably from this.
The changes were a strong statement by the tournament, said Molina. “For us as organizers, it was the beginning of a new era.” Molina thanked top player Alexander Zverev for the immense effort the defending champion had made to get fit after his knee injury. “It’s extremely important for us to have Sascha. His commitment shows how important the tournament is to him and we are very grateful to him. He is the star of the tournament,” said Molina, who also congratulated the doubles specialists Kevin Krawietz/Tim Pütz on their performance.
The change of date of the Hamburg Open to the week before the French Open (May 17-24, 2025) is very good, Molina confirmed. “It’s a much better date for the playersfield.” Tennium wants to continue to improve and is confident enough to say that “we will welcome even better players” in Hamburg next year.
