Renata Zarazúa, a 26-year-old Mexican, won the Montevideo Open title after defeating France’s Diane Parry in the final in the third set. The match was equal, they won one set each and it went to the last set to define the title. The first set was won by Zarazúa 7-5, the second by Perry 6-3 and the deciding set was 6-4 for the Mexican. The match between the two tournament favourites, Parry was the number one and Zarazua the second seed, lasted almost three hours: 2:45.
In doubles, the champions were the Argentinians Julia Riera and Lourdes Carle.
