Alexander Zverev and Holger Rune Confirmed as Headliners for Hamburg Open 2024

Hamburg, November 14, 2023 – The prestigious Hamburg Open, set to mark its 118th edition in 2024, is thrilled to announce the participation of two top 10 ATP players for its main draw.

This exciting news was unveiled during a press conference held at Hamburg’s City Hall, attended by key figures including Andy Grote, the Innen- und Sportsenator of Hamburg, Dietloff Von Arnim, President of the DTB (German Tennis Federation), and Kristoff Puelinckx, the owner and CEO of Tennium, the company entrusted with organizing the tournament in the upcoming editions.

“The tournament at Hamburg’s Rothenbaum is one of the most prestigious sports events in Germany with a long tradition,” said Sports Senator Andy Grote, expressing his enthusiasm for the upcoming tournament. “The return of Alexander Zverev after his spectacular victory in the final this year already promises an extremely exciting course of the tournament. I am confident that with the support of the Hamburg audience, he will give his all for another victory in his hometown.”

During the press conference, the Sports Senator also outlined his expectations for the tournament next year, stating, “I am confident that Tennium, with its expertise and experience, will organize a highly attractive tournament that will captivate both fans and players alike.”

Dietloff von Arnim, President of the DTB, looked optimistically toward the future of the tournament and said: “We have the best conditions to continue the great tradition of international elite tennis at the Hamburg Rothenbaum in the coming years. Hamburg tennis fans can also look forward to a sports event with German and international world-class players in the coming years – as evidenced by Alexander Zverev’s commitment for the year 2024.”

Kristoff Puelinckx, CEO of Tennium, emphasized the tournament’s commitment to featuring a blend of young, rising talent and established players in this historic new edition. He explained, “Our goal is to collaborate closely with the city and the federation, making this historic tournament a pivotal event not only on the sports calendar but also for the city itself.”

Reigning champion Alexander Zverev, currently ranked 7th in the ATP, is set to return to the courts that have brought him immense joy over the past year. Zverev, who is currently competing in the Nitto Finals in Turin, expressed his excitement to be part of this new edition, saying, “I am so excited to come back, it is a very special place for me, Hamburg is where I was born and started playing tennis.”

Another Nitto Finals participant, Holger Rune, currently ranked 8th in the ATP, is the first player confirmed to challenge Zverev for the crown. The young star, who turned professional in 2020 and has rapidly climbed the rankings, will make a return to Hamburg after having previously participated in the tournament in 2019 and 2021.
