Diana Shnaider claimed her first professional title on the WTA Tour, defeating Leolia Jeanjean 6-4, 6-4 in the final of the WTA 125K Montevideo Open.
Shnaider’s first career title will see her rise to a career-high No. 109 on the live WTA rankings. In this way, being close to the top 100, she has a great chance of qualifying for the Australian Open 2023.
The champion had words of praise for the organisation and the treatment she received. “It doesn’t matter if I’m in the top 20 in the world, I want to come back next year. I came to this tournament on my own, and the people have been very nice,” she said. “I felt very comfortable and I want to come back,” she added.
As for doubles, Brazilians Ingrid Gamarra Martins and Luisa Stefani, ranked 131st in the WTA and 54th in the WTA respectively, won 7-5, 6(6)–7(8) and 10–6 in two hours and eleven minutes against French tennis player Elixane Lechemia and American player Quinn Gleason, ranked 155th and 331st in the WTA rankings.
