The Hungarian Panna Udvardy has become the new champion of the WTA Argentina Open after defeating the Danka Kovinic from Montenegro in two sets (6-4, 6-1). This way, Udvardy wins the most important title of her career, the “mate” trophy.
It is the first WTA title for the 24-year-old, who had reached the semi-finals in 2021. She returned to Argentina for more and will be back in 2023. “What I like most about Argentina is the people, who are very friendly. There was a great atmosphere on the court and that motivated me every day to play my best tennis. I love the food, the people, I love the vibe and that will make me come back next year,” said the champion.
With Udvardy’s win, Hungary consolidates its dominance in the women’s tournament in Argentina with its second consecutive victory since the return of the WTA to Buenos Aires. Last year, it was Anna Bondar who lifted the iconic “mate” trophy.
