Zheng Qinwen is proclaimed champion of the first WTA 125 format edition of the Open Internacional de Valencia

With the court over 1,000 spectators, the clash between Zheng Qinwen and Xiyu Wang has taken place at the Sporting Tennis Club.

Zheng Qinwen has been proclaimed champion at the Sporting Tennis Club after defeating her compatriot Xiyu Wang in three hard-fought sets by 6-4, 4-6 and 6-3.

In doubles, the Spanish pair Aliona Bolsova and Rebeka Masarova, in two sets, won the trophy designed by Gravity Waves, where plastics, nets and glass have been collected from the Mediterranean Sea and reused to give it the shape of a tennis ball.

Anabel Medina, tournament director, concluded the first edition of the event as WTA125 by stating that the tournament was born ‘to become what we are seeing today and it is thanks to all the institutional, private and personal support that we are managing to make history’.
